The diagnosis of semantic pragmatic disorder is usually made by a speech therapist. But it can also be diagnosed by a psychologist as well. I found it fascinating to study about this particular disorder and was almost the same as Aspergers Syndrome. But the speech is one of the main features and behaviours slightly different to that of the Aspergers child.

I have often thought that maybe the semantic pragmatic disorder would be a probable diagnosis for girls in particular. Mainly because girls seem to be outgoing and it can be a very difficult task trying to diagnose a girl with Aspergers Syndrome. It has a very long journey for my Husband and myself trying to get our daughter Chloe diagnosed beacuse she is quite outgoing at times. But she lacks proper interaction with other children. And her social cues are not very good. She has been tunnel visioned on her obsessions. She has some fears that are quite unusual. Mainly her fears are of toilet seats and she is absolutely feared still of black toilet seats. It's not so much the flushing but the actual shape and size. One of her other big fears is light bulbs. She is able to tell you when they are about to blow. We believe she can actual hear them buzzing when there switched on. As she has got a little older she has developed a real attitude problem. She can be very angry and confused one minute and be very timid in the next. Sometimes she can hit out for no apparant reason, she recently has been very upset with the changes that have been made to her favourite cartoon channel. She is not very impressed with the colour changes ,and has become very scared and anxious. I was wondering if anybody had experienced any fears in their child.

Does anyone remember the weather symbols that used to appear on ITV after the main news? My daughter Chloe used to be terrified of them. Have you had a similiar experience with your child? If so please let me know, as her doctor found this unusal. We never could really understand why she would react like she did when the symbols appeared.
